Berlin Photography Weekend
May 30th – June 2nd 2025 (3 nights)
Situated at the crossing of two important trade routes, Berlin was first documented in the 13th Century. It is Germany’s capital and also its largest city with nearly 4 million inhabitants.
After World War 2 Berlin was split by the Wall into two sections – West and East. It became Germany’s capital once again after reunification in 1990. It is now one of the most stimulating, creative and cultural centres in Europe.
The diversity and vivacity of the city has led to a trendsetting atmosphere with an innovative music, dance and art scene. It survived fires, bombs, even the dividing Wall but it became ballsy and daring – living proof that anything is possible.
Our group will dive into its punky, alternative neighbourhoods near the Landwehrkanal or Spree and find indie galleries, parks, cafés and bars below the graffitied ruins of the Wall. The parks and factories have often been reborn as arts hubs
At quirky MonsterKabinett we’ll not only see some incredible street art but we’ll also get an opportunity to visit an interesting underground feature.
We’ll descend a steep spiral staircase and meet ‘Püppi’, a techno-loving go-go dancer at Hannes Heiner’s surrealist underground world. Inspired by his dreams, the artist has fashioned a menagerie of mechanical robot-monsters and assembled them in a computer-controlled art and sound installation that certainly entertains.
Mauerpark was once a division point between East and West Berlin and part of the Berlin Wall ‘Death Strip’. It is now a large urban green space in the heart of the city. There’s a chance to see some great graffiti artists in action. It also has information about the Berlin and some great photo opportunities at the Sunday flea market.
What is Street Photography?
In essence it is capturing that which so often unpredictable and unscripted in the moments and movements of life.
It is like dancing with time and recording its moments as each individual sees them. As such it’s suitable for all levels and camera types and most importantly to those with the eyes and souls to record such events.
We will hold a couple of short morning workshops that will focus primarily on composition and photography techniques enhancing your creative experience. The rest of the day will be spent photographing Berlin with expert help on hand from your two tutors.
Join us in this photographic adventure and explore one of Europe’s most vibrant European cities
