Our base Competa surrounded by national park and breathtaking mountains and only 25 minutes from beautiful beaches. Long known as the pearl of the Axarquía Competa is located seven hundred metres above sea level – it has stunning views of the surrounding mountains, countryside and Mediterranean. Competa is best known for its locally produced wine, available both. The town is self sufficient and thriving, providing its three thousand inhabitants with a municipal market for example with a fresh daily supply of meat fish and vegetables. It is a charming flower bedecked old town with its main centre, the Plaza Almijara, dominated by a magnificent sixteenth century church. This bustling square is one of the best places to enjoy a break with a choice of several bars and restaurants. Competa is fascinating to explore with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets that date back to Moorish times and spectacular views. The town is located less than an hour from Málaga airport

Use all your senses and step into the fishermen’s life. Finally an expert will show us how to cook one of the culinary delights in Andalucia, the “espetos” (traditional sardine skewers). The photo opportunities will be endless!

Return: 21.00

Day 4 – Free Day – perhaps a quiet day by the pool or take an option like a local walk (led) a trip out (escorted) eg Granada, Flamenco

Day 5 – Frigiliana (The White Village)

A maze of cobbled streets, with meticulously maintained whitewashed houses, that provide a stunning contrast against the blue skies and red slate roofs. The colourful plant pots brimming with bougainvillea, lavender and jasmine all add an extra dash of colour to this enchanting scene.

As you wander up the hillside through the pedestrianised cobbled streets, past the white houses with doors painted an array of pastel colours, past tiny nooks and crannies and viewpoints that offer glimpses of the surrounding countryside and the coast below, you can fully understand why Frigiliana is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. A village that has consistently won awards to that effect. Including being voted as the ‘prettiest village in Andalusia’ by the Spanish tourism authority.

Day 6 – Caminito del Rey (full day trip)

The Caminito Del Rey – the perfect place to take pictures of natural landscapes. Also known as the “King’s Pathway” it was originally built in 1901 as part of king Alfonso XIII’s ambitious hydroelectric energy project to unify three rivers. By the 1990s, the long-since disappeared handrails and missing chunks of concrete created eye-popping stretches of path that were only inches wide or non-existent. Following an extensive €5.5-million restoration the path reopened in March 2015 and is open to anyone with a reasonable head for heights. *Please note there if you have a fear of heights a new tunnel provides an alternative to the boardwalks above the Gaitanes Gorge.
